Kirsty Rosie.    Kirsty is a Community Ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Australia. Kirsty will be talking about, government grants, the funding differential between Breast and Ovarian Cancer, the difficulties of fund raising and particularly about the cultural difficulties faced by ethnic women needing advice and support.  She will also highlight the need for all women to be aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

Please join us at our next meeting on September 15th 2013 at 9.30am. Cost $8 includes a light breakfast and hearing our guest speaker Dr Caroline Norma from RMIT talk about her research into gender issues.

We will also be holding our AGM at the September meeting and are hoping that members will consider nominating for the SWAN administrative committee. As some of our current committee will be standing down, without new committee members to help carry out the administrative duties, SWAN will no longer exist.

 We will also be asking members to vote on the proposed changes to the SWAN model rules at the AGM.

Guest Speaker:  Santilla Chingaipe . – “From Africa to Australia”. Santilla is an acclaimed young Melbourne journalist/filmmaker/racism researcher/activist.

Doors open at 9.30.  $8.00 includes refreshments.  Come and meet other like minded women who share an interest in all things to do with social justice,  in a safe and friendly space.  Membership is not necessary.

At the meeting we heard a very moving address from Lama, a 20 year old Palestinian woman who shared her personal story of seeking refuge in Australia six months ago. 

In closing, Lama asked us to pray for all the innocent people in both Israel and Palestine who are suffering as a result of the current conflict. All they want is peace.
