International Women's DayOur speaker/s will be Pia Cerveri and Jodi Peskett Pia Cerveri is a social worker who has worked in Australia and the United Kingdom and specialised in working with children and their families, youth justice and with women in the Victorian prison system. Pia is a longtime Australian Services Union member and is committed to achieving gender equity via many means, including through the collective power of the union movement. Pia was, until recently, the co-lead of the Women’s and Equality team at Victorian Trades Hall Council.

Do please join us as we celebrate NAIDOC with our guest speakers Lisa Waup, and Tracey Lea who will be representing Baluk Arts, a not-for-profit organisation based in Mornington. Baluk Artists originate from diverse Aboriginal backgrounds from all over Australia and their artworks reflect themes of identity in a contemporary cultural context. Through their work Baluk Arts has enabled family groups and members of the stolen generation to reconnect with their culture. Meeting starts at 9.30 with the $8 entry fee including refreshments. Do join us at 9.30 for our first meeting of 2016. Our guest speaker will be Carmen Hawker, the manager of the Victorian branch of The Global Women's Project. This Australian based non-profit organisation endeavours to empower women and support grassroots organisations in Nepal and Cambodia. Carmen will speak about their ongoing work including efforts to prevent violence against women. Registration $8 on the door. Non members very welcome. Light refreshments included.
