Annual General Meeting 2023

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND CALL FOR VITAL NOMINATIONS TO ALLOW SWAN TO CONTINUE

The SWAN AGM will be held on Sunday 17th September.  Several Committee Members are stepping down and we need nominations for SWAN to continue.  Nomination forms have been emailed to you and are also available below for the roles of Facilitator, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee Members.  A new role of Social Justice Coordinator is also open.  The role of Speaker Coordinator is filled from the Committee positions.  Self-nomination is encouraged.  We can take nominations on the day but would prefer nominations beforehand.

Notice of Motion to be voted on:

That the number of ordinary members of Committee to be elected (in addition to 3 office bearers) be not more than 7.

We are looking for new Committee Members.   Of the current 7 members, several are NOT re-standing: Facilitator, Secretary, Treasurer.  The role of Speaker Coordinator is filled from the Committee positions.

As well, we want to fill a new role of Social Justice Co-ordinator - to oversee the increasing number of actions being proposed by SWAN Members, the SWAN Committee, and the Supporting First Nations Interest Group.  Without this Social Justice Co-ordinator role in place, SWAN’s Social Justice activities are severely limited.

It is a great Committee with wide experience, all dedicated to Social Justice and a vibrant future for SWAN.  Joining the Committee is a practical way to become more involved in and learn about varied Social Justice issues, and in particular, to have a say in SWAN’s future direction.

Position descriptions are on the SWAN website: https://swanwomen.org.au/about-us/committee-position-descriptions/.  These give an idea of the required tasks but if you can take on any subset of these tasks it will assist everyone on the Committee.  The Committee is very flexible and happy to allocate tasks according to members’ time availability, preferences and skills.

Current position holders will be happy to provide support during the transition.  Being away or on holidays for a period, as many of us are, is not an issue - someone will stand in for you.

Undertaking some of these tasks without being on the Committee is also possible and we will be happy to hear of any such offers.   A list of tasks is available on the above link.

To understand more about the Committee positions or the possible separate tasks, please contact any of the Committee Members.

Offices and roles not filled by election will be determined at the first Committee Meeting.  Roles not subject to separate election will also be decided then.

If you are interested in joining our friendly committee please follow the link to a copy of the nomination form which you can print off, complete and send to us at our mail or email address.
